Going The Extra Mile
We had a visit from a patient today who wasn’t seeing well in his right eye. The examination revealed a cloudy membrane behind his previously placed intraocular lens. Normally insurance companies require the treatment (laser removal of this membrane) to be done on a different day in order to be paid. Our patient’s wife is paralysized and it is difficult for him to leave her. Regardless of our patient’s home situation, many offices would follow the insurance company’s policy and force this man to reschedule another day.
Because we place our patient’s best interest first, we went ahead and did the laser treatment today. This may not be in our financial interest, but is best for our patient. He was able to return home to care for his wife and not have to leave her side for another visit. He was very appreciative of our efforts!
