Commonwealth Eye Center, LLC (CEC) was formed by D. Russell Brear, M.D. in January of 1985. His practice was established to serve the ophthalmology needs of patients in the Piedmont region of Virginia. Twenty years later we are still proudly serving our community. We are also able to offer the services of Ric Barklund, O.D. He joined CEC in March 2005 and brings with him 15 years of experience in the field of optometry.

We are fortunate to have Dr. Mohit Nanda visit our office to provide state of the art retina care.  He comes to us from Charlottesville and trained at Stanford University.  He performs medical and surgical retina procedures.

Our doctors and staff have a reputation for providing excellent personalized care in an accessible and caring manner. As a team we focus on routine and acute care, and we offer the newest technologies in refractive procedures. We are committed to developing close relationships with our patients and their families. We know how to listen to our patients and how to take the time to deal with individual issues and concerns.

CEC participates with most major insurance companies. We also participate in the EyeMed/Blueview and Spectera/Optum Health Vision/United Healthcare Vision plans.
